Acupuncture Services at InMotion Bedford

Welcome to InMotion Physiotherapy & Wellness Centre in Bedford, where we specialize in tailoring treatments to your individual needs. In a calm comfortable setting, our Acupuncturist, Laurel will stimulate selected points on the body (with very small needles) to restore balance and promote relaxation and healing so you can be present and live your most vibrant life.

A Holistic Approach to

Your Well-Being

At InMotion, we believe in a holistic, client-centered approach. Our acupuncturist will take the time to listen and understand your situation before developing an individualized treatment. She aims to provide a space where you can relax, and she uses acupuncture and other modalities to treat your complaints and help your body heal itself. Because everything is connected, sometimes in treating your chief complaint we help regulate other imbalances at the same time.

Acupuncture looks to restore harmony to the human body as a whole system, and the human body with nature. It also works to prevent disease by treating minor imbalances before they can progress.

Specialized Services for

Diverse Needs
Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses very thin needles to stimulate selected points on the body’s meridians (or channels) to bring the body back into balance and promote relaxation and healing. Stimulating these points helps relax muscles and reduce pain, decrease swelling and aid in regulating immunity, treat and reduce the likelihood of stress-related problems, and more. Each of the channels connects to specific internal organs, so acupuncture can help regulate these organs (lung, heart, digestive organs, etc.) to bring things back into balance.

Ear Acupuncture

The ear is seen as a microcosm of the whole body, so stimulating specific points on the ear can benefit the body. This can be done with needles during the treatment, or with small seed on a piece of tape (earseeds can be left on for 3-5 days and you can press on them to stimulate the point whenever you like).

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is one of the oldest forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine involving a smooth tool used to gently scrape the skin. This technique triggers the release of small, red dots, akin to a rash, facilitating the removal of wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, and fire from the body. By enhancing circulation, Gua Sha offers relief and restoration.

Cupping

A cup is sucked to the skin (either using heat or a pump to remove air from the cup and create suction). The purpose is to promote circulation, dispel pathogenic factors (wind, cold, dampness), decrease swelling and stop pain, and keep the body healthy. It can leave temporary circular marks on the skin, but it is not painful and we can vary the amount of suction depending on your preference and body constitution.

TCM Massage

Traditional Chinese Medicine massage, also called Tui Na, follows meridians and points with the aim of restoring balance and enhancing overall well-being. It promotes circulation in the meridians, helps repair tissues and organs, balances the body, and regulates the internal organs.

About Our Acupuncture services

Acupuncture works to bring your body back into balance which can help reduce pain, regulate digestion, calm the mind, minimize acne, and more.

Your first visit will involve a thorough assessment of your chief complaint and your body as a whole, followed by a treatment plan. With your consent, the treatment will begin.

Follow-up sessions may include ongoing evaluations and modification of treatments. Sessions typically last 30 or 60 minutes, with each treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective practice when conducted by licensed professionals. We use single-use disposable needles and are diligent about Clean Needle Technique, so the risk of infection is minimal. Common side effects could include some soreness or minor bleeding/bruising at the site of insertion. Any discomfort or adjustment period is typically mild and temporary.  We are always available to discuss any concerns you may have.

Acupuncture does not hurt, as the needles we use are very small and we are skilled at inserting them in a way that minimizes discomfort. You may not even feel some of the needles go in!  However sometimes you may feel a little pinch, especially if needled in more sensitive parts of the body (for example hands and feet).

When the needles are in, you might feel a pleasant sensation of heaviness, tingling, or mild soreness: this is a good sign of the arrival of qi, and it is not painful.

A doctor's referral is not required to make an appointment. However, some insurance companies may require one, so please check with your provider.
